A TXT record is text in free, human-readable form, that's associated with an Internet domain as a DNS record for one purpose or other. The most common use of a TXT record is to add your web site to an Internet search engine or to an analytics platform, which provides information about the web traffic to your site. Setting up such a record serves as proof that you're the domain address owner and they'll provide the content you need to include as the value when you create the record. Another application of a TXT record is to validate that an email message is sent by the domain owner and from a reliable server - this is the so-called SPF protection, that prevents any electronic address created under your domain name to be forged and unauthorized people to send unsolicited mail making it appear like it was sent from your own mailbox. You could include any other information that you'd like to be associated with your Internet domain in a TXT record as well.
