Secure Shell, also known as SSH, is a cryptographic network protocol used to execute commands on a remote hosting server or to exchange information between a server and a client. Since the info exchanged by the two sides is protected, a third party won't be able to intercept it, which makes SSH a preferred means of handling a hosting account. The commands that could be executed are determined by the type of hosting service. On a shared web server, for instance, the alternatives are limited as you'll not have root access to the machine, so you may only create/move/delete files, set up and unpack archives, import and export databases, and so forth. They're all actions which are performed inside the shared hosting account and don't require a higher level of access. Using a virtual or a dedicated server, you will have the ability to install server-side software or to restart the web server or just a particular service (web server, database server, etc.). SSH commands are submitted through a command line, but if you do not use a UNIX-like Operating System, there are a lot of apps for other OSs, that you can employ to connect to the remote hosting server as well.
SSH Telnet in Cloud Hosting
If you have a cloud hosting account with our company and you would like to deal with your content remotely via SSH, you can easily get SSH access to the account through your Hepsia Control Panel. If your package doesn't include this feature by default, you may add it with a few mouse clicks through the Upgrades menu. In the SSH section of the Control Panel, you will see the host, the port number and the username that you need to use when you connect to the account. You can also choose what password you would like to use, considering that it doesn't need to be the same as the one for the account. We have prepared a lot of Help articles where you can find each of the commands that you'll be able to use with a shared hosting package, plus examples of how they are used. Moreover, if SSH access is enabled for your account, you shall be able to establish a Secure FTP (SFTP) connection through a standard client like FileZilla, for instance.

These login credentials are also needed if you would like to upload files using a secure connection and you would like to use SFTP, which is also part of the SSH access service which we offer. An extensive list of the commands that you can perform shall provide you with a better idea of what tasks you may perform within your account and each one is accompanied by several instances of the syntax.
